SpaceX Completes Acquisition of Cursor, Bringing Composer Training and the Grok Development Toolchain Into a Single Stack
Cursor has confirmed that it is joining SpaceXAI. The two companies will jointly improve Grok Build, Grok Bot, the Grok API, and Cursor. The deal vertically integrates GPU infrastructure, coding-model training, and access to millions of developers, but no timeline has been announced for migrating models, data, or APIs.

On August 14, Cursor confirmed through its [official account](https://x.com/cursor_ai/status/2088249881718919393) that SpaceX had completed the acquisition. The team will join SpaceXAI, with its scope of work explicitly covering Grok Build, Grok Bot, the Grok API, and Cursor. For developers, the key issue is not the size of the deal, but that the three-layer stack for coding agents—training compute, specialized coding models, and distribution through IDEs and cloud agents—is now controlled by a single corporate group.
The integration has a technical history. When Cursor announced the partnership in April, it said that after launching Composer, its first agent model, it scaled reinforcement learning for Composer 1.5 by more than 20×. Composer 2 then added continued pretraining, but further scaling was constrained by compute availability, prompting a move to SpaceXAI’s Colossus infrastructure. SpaceX’s public-listing filings also described the partnership as a vertical integration of compute infrastructure, models, and applications, and said Cursor’s model harness and software-engineering workloads were expected to support Grok training.
The most important technical question is whether the feedback loop will become shorter. Cursor can derive task distributions and failure signals from agent trajectories in real-world repositories, while SpaceXAI can provide large-scale asynchronous rollout and inference capacity. Combining the two could allow specialized coding models to move more quickly through data collection, RL, online evaluation, and redeployment. Cursor also supports external models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and others. Whether it maintains the same model neutrality, enterprise code-isolation controls, and data-retention policies after the acquisition will directly affect adoption by engineering teams. The companies have not announced a merger of Composer and Grok, changes to API compatibility, pricing adjustments, or rules governing the sharing of training data. At this stage, only the organizational and infrastructure integration can be confirmed; it cannot be assumed that the products have already been migrated.
